Frequently Asked Questions
What is the theology of Christ Together?
Our beliefs are expressed by the following four truths:
The Bible is the Word of God.
The Bible is inspired by God, serves as a trustworthy guide to life, and functions as the foundation for all we believe, say, and do. (2 Timothy 3:16)
Jesus is the Son of God.
Jesus is like no one else. Along with the Father and the Holy Spirit, Jesus is one of the three members of the Trinity. He is God’s Son, the Lord of all creation, and Savior of the world, fully God and fully man. (John 3:16; John 14:6)
The Gospel is the way to God.
Though God created us to live in a harmonious relationship with him, we turned away from him. Through Jesus, we have the opportunity to restore that relationship and experience a new life with God. (John 14:6, Luke 9:23)
The Church is the people of God.
There is only one Church in Chicagoland, which gathers in many locations and whose purpose is to lead people into a new way of life with Jesus through the leadership of the Holy Spirit. (1 Peter 2:9-10)
Is Christ Together a denomination?
No, Christ Together isn’t a denomination, but it consists of churches from many denominations. Denominations are networks of churches intended to preserve and communicate theological and cultural distinctions over large distances for long periods of time as well as coordinate resources on a global scale for missions, poverty relief, and Christian education. Christ Together does not compete with or even supplement denominations in what they do. Rather, Christ Together complements their role by galvanizing the Church in a local community to reach its God-given redemptive potential. It is the wide spectrum of church backgrounds and styles within Christ Together that give it the bandwidth to reach all of the people within a particular area.
What type of churches are part of Christ Together?
Christ Together consists of a broad spectrum of healthy, Christ-centered, Kingdom-minded churches that embrace its vision and beliefs. Urban, suburban, and rural churches, as well as those from diverse cultural backgrounds and worship styles, come together to form the fabric of Christ Together.
How can para-church ministries partner with Christ Together?
While Christ Together is a network of partner churches, it has strong relationships with many para-church ministries that perform a vital function in the broader Kingdom. Christ Together often serves as a bridge, connecting local churches to other ministries around them in ways that enhance the overall Kingdom impact of both.
What does it mean to be a Christ Together partner?
Partner churches believe in the vision of Christ Together and, beyond the direct involvement of their senior pastor, choose to invest a portion of their staff time and annual budget toward its success. At the same time, Christ Together understands that each church has a unique role to play in the Kingdom and respects their individual autonomy as they pursue their calling. Additionally, Christ Together attempts to steward each church’s investment of time and money as wisely as possible, understanding the demands of the local church.
How is Christ Together organized?
Christ Together is comprised of area churches working in concert with one another to pursue God’s purpose for their city. No single church is elevated above any other, and no church is asked to surrender their individual identity. Rather, all partnering churches choose to serve together under the banner of Jesus Christ. In addition, Christ Together encourages the churches in a city to prayerfully seek God together and to pursue a unique Kingdom fingerprint that best represents Christ in their area.
How is Christ Together funded?
Christ Together is a non-profit, tax-deductible organization that operates through the gifts and donations of local churches and individuals.
